Northeast El Paso, TX : Former Daphne High football player Issac Houston killed in Texas car accident on Saturday morning, November 1, 2014
Former Daphne High football player Issac Houston was killed in a car accident early Saturday morning near Northeast El Paso, Texas, according to the El Paso Times.
Houston, 21, was serving in the Army.
The El Paso Times reported Sunday that Noemi Juarez, 23, had been arrested in connection with the crash on suspicion of intoxicated manslaughter.
The Times reported that Juarez was driving a Jeep Cherokee at a high rate of speed and struck Houston’s Chevrolet Cruze from behind. The impact caused Houston, stationed at Fort Bliss, to hit the curb and collide with a bus bench.
He was driving the vehicle and died at the scene. A 20-year-old passenger in Houston's car was not injured.
The accident happened at 2:30 a.m. Saturday.
Daphne coach Glenn Vickery said Houston came by the high school during spring football practice to say hello. He had played on the 2010 Class 6A Trojan state championship team.
“Issac was a very good football player for us,” Vickery said Monday afternoon. “Much more importantly, I will always remember his smile, his attitude, his character, his demeanor and the respectful person he was.
“Issac was probably one of the nicest kids I have ever coached. I would trust him with anything I had. This old world lost a great young man who has impacted many and had lots to give back. I will miss him greatly.”
Vickery said he visited with Houston’s mom Sunday afternoon.
“It was a tough visit,” he said.
