Houston, TX : One person died and another was injured when the driver ran into a tree in south Houston on Saturday, April 17th, 2016

One person died and another was injured when the driver ran into a tree in south Houston early Sunday morning.
The driver of a white Nissan Altima and a female passenger were headed east on West Orem Drive, near Almeda Road, around 4:15 a.m. The driver lost control of the car, skidding onto a traffic island before crashing into a tree. No other vehicles were involved in the wreck.

The driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger was taken to the hospital in an unknown condition but was expected to survive.
Authorities closed the road in both directions and are investigating whether intoxication played a role in the crash.
