Scranton, PA : Fatal I-81 crash was a head-on collision on Monday, January, 22nd 2018

The director of special services at Mountain View School District died Monday morning when the Subaru she was riding in collided head-on with another vehicle on Interstate 81 near the Susquehanna County line, state police at Dunmore said.

Patricia L. Pasierb, Ed.D., 62, of Jefferson Twp., died near mile marker 205 on Interstate 81 south about 7:40 a.m., according to a news release from the Dunmore barracks.

The Subaru, driven north by Rebecca Giordano, also an employee of the school district, careened across the grassy median and into oncoming southbound traffic after being clipped by Jacob Bennett’s Volkswagen Jetta as he merged from the passing lane into the driving lane.

Both vehicles traveled into the median, but Bennett, of Rahway, New Jersey, managed to stop in the grass.

Giordano, also of Jefferson Twp., collided with a Ford Escape driven by Nicole Onofrey of Union Dale.
