Providence, RI : Five people injured in RIPTA bus crash near the intersection of Gaspee and Francis Streets on Tuesday, March 1, 2016
A RIPTA bus crash that sent multiple passengers to the hospital Tuesday is under investigation.
The accident happened on Francis Street in front of the Providence Place Mall at the intersection of Gaspee street around 2 p.m.
It appeared the bus side-swiped a lamp post, damaging part of the bus' front windshield and leaving broken glass scattered at the scene.
Four passengers, as well as the bus driver, were taken to the hospital injuries that do not appear to be serious.
RIPTA spokesperson, Barbara Polichetti, says the driver has been an employee of RIPTA for about 11 and a half years and has a good safety record with the authority. She also say speed does not seem to be a factor and that they are cooperating with Providence Police in the investigation.
Police have not yet released a cause.
