Passenger killed, driver injured in car accident in Georgetown

One person is dead and another is in a Charleston hospital after an accident on Pee Dee Road in Georgetown Saturday night, officials confirmed.At about 11:10 p.m. Saturday night, a Ford four-door vehicle traveling west ran off the left side of the roadway, struck a ditch, and overturned several times, said Sgt. Bob Beres with the South Carolina Highway Patrol.The passenger was not wearing a seatbelt, and was ejected from the vehicle, Sgt. Beres stated. According to Georgetown County Coroner Kenny Johnson, the passenger died at a Grand Strand hospital at 1:05 a.m. He was identified as 28-year-old Simon Dease Jr. of Jeremiah Lane in Georgetown.The driver, identified by SCHP as 26-year-old Jermy Grate, was also not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He was transported to a hospital in Charleston.The South Carolina Highway Patrol continues to investigate this incident.
