Kissimmee, FL : Troopers investigate a deadly hit-and-run crash on State Road 535 near North Poinciana Boulevard on early Thursday morning September 25th 2014
Florida Highway Patrol troopers may have found the vehicle that hit a pedestrian in Osceola County and then fled the scene.
The crash happened around 2:30 a.m. on southbound State Road 535 near the intersection of North Poinciana Boulevard.
Troopers said 26-year-old Edward Johnson Jr., of Melbourne, was riding back with friends to a Ramada Inn from a nearby Buffalo Wild Wings restaurant.
Johnson was holding his hand and hotel room key out of the window.
The car pulled over when the key slipped from his hands.
While looking for the key, troopers said Johnson was struck by a vehicle.
The car's three passengers told troopers the vehicle sped south on SR-535 and turned east on Osceola Parkway.
"Based on what I'm being told by the witnesses, they had to know that they had struck a pedestrian."
Family members who reside in Kissimmee were called and positively identified the body.
SR-535 was closed for several hours as troopers investigated the scene, but reopened around 6 a.m.
Nearly an hour later, troopers located a possible suspect vehicle in Osceola -- a black Mazda SUV. The exact location nor details on how they found the vehicle have not been released. It is currently being towed to FHP headquarters on Semoran Boulevard in Orlando.
The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.
