Peoria, AZ : 21-year-old El Mirage driver killed in motorcycle crash Sun City on Saturday February 20 2016
A 21-year-old El Mirage driver faces charges in an accident last month in which her vehicle collided with a motorcycle, resulting in the motorcyclist’s death.
Nikole Vicario, 21, was cited Thursday by police for failure to yield when turning left and causing serious injury or death; by moving violation, a police spokesman confirmed.
There is no presumption of jail time. Vicario faces a maximum fine of $2,750, potential suspension of driving privileges for up to 180 days and the possibility of up to 40 hours of community service. A sentencing date could not immediately be learned.
Vicario was behind the wheel at 12:07 p.m. Jan. 25 when her passenger car made a left turn off westbound Thunderbird Road toward 91st Avenue and was struck by a motorcycle operated by Gary Croddy, 60, of Sun City. The impact threw Croddy, who was wearing a helmet, from the motorcycle onto the pavement, where he suffered multiple injuries. The former Bothell, Wash., resident was rushed to a nearby hospital but later died.
Police said impairment was not a factor in the incident, but indicated that Vicario failed to yield to oncoming traffic, a civil violation resulting in a maximum fine of $250. In addition, she faces a fine of up to $2,500 for a misdemeanor traffic violation causing the death of another person under ARS 28-772.
Vicaro also could face of a civil lawsuit should Croddy’s family decide to take that action.
A passenger in Vicaro’s vehicle, a woman in her 20s, was taken to a hospital and treated for minor injuries. She has not been identified.
