Accident reconstruction is underway near Carolina Place Mall, in Pineville, after a man was killed when his car crashed and caught fire early Tuesday morning.
The Pineville Fire Department confirmed at least one person, later identified as 34-year-old Mark A. Bradford, was killed in the crash that happened just after midnight.
According to police, the vehicle was a four door white Kia Sportage with an Illinois license plate. Bradford, investigators later said, was staying in Pineville while on a business trip.
When firefighters arrived at the scene, they found the vehicle charred, wedged up against a tree.
"We are working in conjunction with the Mecklenburg County Fire Marshal’s Office and the Mecklenburg County Medical Examiner’s Office to determine a potential cause of the crash and to learn the identity of the driver," Pineville Police said Tuesday morning, before Bradford's next of kin had been notified.
Investigator say they are following up leads and attempting to track down any possible security camera footage from surrounding businesses in the area.
