Lincoln police have identified the 27-year-old man who died after his pickup truck collided with a semitrailer on State Fair Park Road Monday evening.

Eric Bergman was killed when the westbound black Chevrolet pickup he was driving crossed the center line and hit an eastbound semi pulling a trailer near the 27th Street bridge just before 5:30 p.m., police said.

Bergman was partially thrown from the truck and died at the scene.

A 10-year-old child in the truck was taken to the hospital, treated and released, Capt. Bob Farber said.

The crash is still under investigation and investigators aren't sure why Bergman crossed the center line.

The semi driver and a woman driving a black four-door Mercedes Benz which was hit on the passenger side were examined by medical personnel on the scene, but weren't taken to the hospital, Officer Katie Flood said.

It's unknown whether Bergman was wearing a seat belt or not, Flood said.
