COLUMBIA, SC : Deputy disregards traffic light, causes crash on Friday July 25th 2014

No charges have been filed after highway patrol troopers say a Richland County deputy ran a red light and slammed into another driver.

The crash happened in Northeast Columbia on Two Notch Road near Interstate 77 Friday.

Troopers say the deputy's blue lights were not on when he tried to go through the intersection.

The cruiser flipped over and the other car was totaled.

The Richland County Sheriff's Department says the deputy was treated for minor injuries at the hospital.

The driver, 22-year-old Katie Miles has scratches and bruises.

She says she's thankful for all the help she received at the scene but she says she's stunned the deputy has not been charged.

"I would like support from them because it wasn't my fault what happened," Miles said. "I don't think it's fair that he wasn't given a ticket because had it been me that hit him, I would have been loaded with fees and fines and tickets and I would have been held accountable for what my actions were and it seems like he hasn't been held accountable at all."

Highway patrol did not say why no charges were filed.

Miles was driving south on Two Notch Road, and tried to turn left onto Trenholm Road when troopers say the deputy's cruiser clipped the front corner of her vehicle.

The sheriff's department has not yet released any further information about the crash.
