LINCOLN, NY : A 4-year-old girl was killed a pickup truck crash on September, Saturday 2nd 2017
A 4-year-old girl was killed Saturday after a pickup truck crashed into a utility pole on the side of Burleson Road in the town of Lincoln, Madison County Undersheriff John E. Ball said.
The girl and another child, a 1-year-old boy, were in the back seat, in proper child safety seats when the crash happened about 3:40 p.m., Ball said in the release.
The boy was taken by ambulance to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries, said Ball, who's also the acting sheriff.
Mercy Flight helicopter took the girl to the same hospital. She was pronounced dead.
Here's what Ball said happened:
The children's 27-year-old father was driving a Toyota southbound on Burleson Road when he lost control and drove off the side of the road. The pickup truck struck a utility pole on the passenger's side.
The truck came to rest about 100 feet beyond the utility pole.
"When deputies arrived, they found an extended cab pickup truck with very heavy damage and a utility pole sheared in half with live wires down," Ball said in a news release.
National Grid was called to the scene to secure power, and repair the downed pole and wires on Burleson Road, between Forest Avenue and Vedder Road.
