FOREST, OH : One person killed in U.S. 30 accident on Thursday, March 16th 2017
A La Rue man was killed in a two-vehicle accident Thursday night on U.S. 30, northeast of the village of Forest.
The Wyandot County Sheriff’s Office reported a Nissan driven by Allen E. Barry, 78, of La Rue, attempted to cross U.S. 30 from County Highway 81 at about 7:20 p.m. when the car was struck on the passenger side by an eastbound Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by David A. Sharrock, 62, of Crestline.
Following impact, the Nissan ended up in a ditch off the east edge of County Highway 81, south of U.S. 30.
When deputies arrived, Sharrock was attempting to aid Barry, who was trapped in the vehicle.
Dispatched to the scene were Upper Sandusky EMS, the Wharton-Richland Fire Department, a Jaws of Life apparatus, and a LifeFlight medical helicopter.
The sheriff’s office said Barry was freed from his vehicle and taken to the Upper Sandusky EMS unit, but was pronounced dead at the scene by the LifeFlight helicopter physician.
Barry was not wearing a safety belt, according to the sheriff’s office. Sharrock was checked by EMS at the scene, but was not taken to the hospital.
