Ochopee, FL : One woman killed and son injured in Ochopee two-car crash on Monday October 10 2016
An Immokalee woman was killed and her son was injured Monday in a two-car crash near Ochopee, according to Florida Highway Patrol officials.
Around 8:30 a.m., Hector Jimenez, 37, of Immokalee was driving southbound on State Road 29 in his 2003 Lincoln Aviator and stopped at a flashing red signal at U.S. 41 and State Road 29, according to an FHP report. Charles Hoffman, 71, of Cudjoe Key, was driving his 1997 Dodge Ram westbound on U.S. 41 and passed a flashing yellow signal as he entered the intersection, according to the report.
Jimenez then turned left onto eastbound U.S. 41, where he crossed Hoffman's path, according to the report. The front of Hoffman's Dodge then struck the left side of Jimenez's Lincoln.
One of Jimenez's passengers, Inocenta Sales, 35, of Immokalee was killed in the crash and pronounced dead at Physicians Regional Hospital. Her son Mike Sales, 1, of Immokalee, was also in Jimenez's car and was seriously injured in the crash. He was airlifted to Lee Memorial Hospital, according to FHP officials.
Both Inocenta and Mike Sales were not wearing seatbelts, according to the report. Jimenez sustained minor injuries and was taken to Physicians Regional Hospital. Jimenez's other two passengers were not injured. Charles and Barbara Hoffman sustained minor injuries.
Jimenez was arrested on suspicion of driving with no valid driver’s license, a third-degree felony, causing death, and he was taken to the Collier County Jail.
The crash remains under investigation.
