Ormond Beach, FL : 77-year-old Ormond Beach man was dead after he was struck by a vehicle along North Nova Road on Tuesday night September 23rd 2014
A 77-year-old Ormond Beach man was killed after he was struck by a vehicle along North Nova Road in Volusia County on Tuesday night, police said.
The crash occurred around 8:19 p.m., at the intersection of North Nova Road and North Old Kings Road.
According to witnesses and a police report, Anthony Contino, 28, of Ormond Beach, was traveling north on Nova Road.
Vassilis Vouzoukas was crossing Nova Road when he was struck by Contino's vehicle.
Contino told police that he was traveling around 35 mph. He couldn't see because of the rain. He then struck something, which later turned out to be Vouzoukas, with his vehicle.
Vouzoukas was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Vouzoukas was wearing a black T-shirt and gray shorts and was crossing Nova Road in an area where no crosswalk or other traffic control device was present.
Because of inclement weather conditions and because Vouzoukas didn't yield to the right-of-way to oncoming traffic, Contino wasn't cited, police said.
