Claremont, CA : One person killed, 1 hurt after car falls down Mount Baldy Road on Thursday night, March 3, 2016

A driver was killed and his 17-year-old passenger suffered injuries when a car fell down a mountain road above Claremont Thursday night.

The Coroner’s Office hasn’t identified the man who drove the 2004 Honda S2000.

California Highway Patrol Officer Rodrigo Jimenez said the fatal crash happened on Mount Baldy Road, north of Shinn Road at 9:50 p.m.

The driver was heading south on Mt. Baldy Road when he lost control and went over the edge. Jimenez said. The Honda overturned and landed on its roof. He didn’t know how far it fell.

Lt. Elisabeth Sachs of the sheriff’s San Dimas station said the station received a call of a vehicle over the side of Mount Baldy and Shinn roads shortly after 10 p.m.

The San Dimas Mountain Rescue Team found an overturned convertible, she said. The driver died at the scene. She said the injured passenger was transported to a local hospital.

Jimenez said the passenger, 17-year-old Rene Chacon-Duenas of Montclair, had a broken right wrist, swelling to the face and shoulder pain.

Authorities had to leave the car overnight because it was too dark to retrieve it. They returned to the scene of the crash Friday morning.
