Dover,NH : Brother of mail carrier injured in hit-and-run raises spirits along route on September, Thursday 28th 2017

A new effort is underway to lift the spirits of a mail carrier and the customers who miss him after he was seriously injured in a hit-and-run crash in Madbury.

Mark Dudley is undergoing rehabilitation after he was injured when he was hit as he bicycled along Route 9 in Madbury. He was left on the side of the road, unable to move. Police are still investigating the crash.
Nearly two months later, his brother, Jeff Dudley, is traveling the same route.

"It was pretty emotional when I crossed the site," Jeff Dudley said. "I took the flag, put it in one hand, raised it up."

On Thursday, after riding to the Dover post office, the brother of the man known as Mark the Singing Mailman jogged his brother's downtown mail delivery route, carrying a "Mark's Army" flag in his honor.

"People start clapping in the distance," Jeff Dudley said.

He said his brother is dealing with his serious injuries.

"Mark's entered a period of his rehab that's difficult," he said. "It's going to be a grind. The results will come slow. It's going to be frustrating, so this is primarily for him."

Along the route, Jeff Dudley stops along the way and engages in enthusiastic banter, as his brother was known to do.

"I'm glad to hear he's doing a lot better, and tell him that we all miss him very much and we look forward to seeing him soon," said Josh Hoeflich of Moe's in Dover.

Jeff Dudley said his brother has given him some advice.

"I asked him for a specific route so I could see some of his customers, and then he goes, 'Oh wait, you've got to stop here, and you've got to stop here,'" Jeff Dudley said.

Customers at the businesses he has stopped at have noted their resemblance and the same uplifting attitudes.

"We're coming along, battling away," Jeff Dudley said. "I'm sure he's in therapy right now, working to get back on the street. He misses his customers."

The flag will end up at Moe's for anyone to borrow, and then it will go to Mark Dudley he finally gets home.
