MILLERSBURG, OH : Child and others injured in Holmes County crash on Sunday, September 24th 2017
A child passenger was flown to Akron Children’s Hospital following a two-vehicle crash on state Route 241 in Holmes County Sunday morning.
The child was among five people injured and transported to regional hospitals when the horse-drawn buggy they were riding in was struck by a Chevrolet Sonic which was driven by Tina Yutzy, 20, of Millersburg, according to the Ohio Highway Patrol. The buggy was being operated by Levi Wengerd, 29, also of Millersburg.
Wengerd had been traveling north on state Route 241 in Salt Creek Township, northeast of Millersburg. The motor vehicle also was northbound on Route 241 trailing the buggy, according to state troopers. Yutzy attempted to pass the buggy and went into the southbound lane, troopers said. However, she attempted to return to the northbound lane to avoid southbound traffic, and struck the buggy, according the state troopers’ account.
With the exception of the one child, the state troopers’ release does not mention what hospitals Wengerd and the other passengers went to. Yutzy suffered minor injuries and was treated at the scene. State troopers will continue to investigate the crash which occurred at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday.
