Vail, CO : 21-year-old woman hit, killed by car while walking on Interstate 70 in Vail sunday on July 6, 2014

Authorities say a 21-year-old woman was hit and killed by a car as she was walking on Interstate 70 in Vail.

The Vail Daily reports Starrla Feldmann was hit just after 2 a.m. Sunday when she stepped from the median into the slow lane of westbound traffic. The West Vail woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses say she left her home shortly before the accident, but it's unclear why she walked onto the highway. Investigators say the driver is not suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the accident and has not been charged with any crime.

In December 2009, a pedestrian was killed by a vehicle while crossing Interstate 70 in the same area.
