East Patchogue, NY : Pedestrian fatally struck in a hit-and-run crash while walking on Main Street in East Patchogue on Sunday, April 17, 2016

A blind man has been killed in a hit-and-run crash on Long Island.

Suffolk County police say Warren Karstendick was walking on the shoulder of an East Patchogue road near his home when he was hit by a sport utility vehicle just before 7 a.m. Sunday.

The 64-year-old was taken to a hospital where he later died.

David Karstendick told Newsday that his brother had cataracts and had been blind for several years. He says he wasn't supposed to be out on his own.

Investigators say the blue Ford Explorer fled the scene after it hit Karstendick. Police say the SUV has damage to the front hood and grill.
