Greeley,CO : Man accused of crashing truck into central Greeley apartment on April, monday 17th 2017
The man police say crashed a stolen pickup into a house in central Greeley on Monday was on parole for vehicle theft and had 31 prior restraints on his driver's history.
According to a news release from Sgt. Joe Tymkowych, Nicholas Hall, 36, of Denver, could face as many as five new felony charges, including first-degree vehicle theft and first-degree vehicular assault, after Greeley police arrested him Monday afternoon.
The release stated Hall was driving a pickup stolen out of Denver. A Greeley police officer caught sight of the truck Monday in the 900 block of 10th Street. The officer didn't chase Hall because a high-speed pursuit through central Greeley would have been dangerous, but Hall sped away down 10th Street anyway, the release stated. Not long after, Hall collided with a gray Buick near 23rd Avenue and 9th Street before ramming into the house. The driver of the Buick, Katie Hernandez, 27, was taken to North Colorado Medical Center with serious injuries.
Hall fled the truck and kept running. The release stated police caught up with him in the 500 block of 24th Avenue, near Madison Elementary. He was trying to steal another car, after forcing out a woman and her grandchildren, according to the release.
In the wake of the crash, American Red Cross volunteers arrived to help the two adults displaced when the truck sped through their apartment's south wall. According to a news release from Kathy Dill, a spokeswoman for the organization, the Red Cross provided housing support and assistance.
Hall does not yet have any court dates scheduled.
"This is yet another example of a dangerous felon who should not have been out of prison," Greeley Police Chief Jerry Garner said in the news release. "Without some excellent police work, this could have ended much worse."
