Whitefield ,ME : Augusta driver cited for role in crash that slowed Route 17 traffic on Monday Morning ,july 20h 2015
An Augusta man was summoned for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle following an accident on Route 17 in Whitefield on Monday morning.
Traffic was reduced to a single-lane after Randy Lewis Jr., 35, rear-ended Pendelyn Danforth, 45, of Gardiner, State Trooper James Moore said.
Lewis, in a 2005 Chevy Malibu, and Danforth, in a 2005 Mercury Montego, were both traveling east on Route 17.
Danforth stopped to make a left-hand turn onto Somerville Road when she was rear-ended by Lewis at approximately 8:20 a.m. Danforth was taken to the emergency room in Augusta by the Waldoboro Ambulance Service, due to complaints of back pain, Moore said.
According to Moore, prior to the collision a witness was about to report Lewis due to the erratic operation of his vehicle. The witness reported Lewis’ vehicle crossed the center line of Route 17 several times.
Moore investigated for distracted driving but found no evidence Lewis had been texting prior to the crash, he said. Lewis was summonsed for failure to maintain control of a motor vehicle.
