Ravenna, OH : Kent man dies in 4-vehicle crash on State Route 59 in Portage County on Friday afternoon, July 8, 2016

The Ohio Highway Patrol reported a 4-vehicle fatal crash that occurred on State Route 59 west of Ravenna just after 1 p.m. today (July 8).

Troopers say that Curtis W. Williams, 67, of Kent, Ohio died when the 2000 Buick Le Sabre he was driving was severely damaged. Williams was the lone occupant in the car and was not wearing a seat belt at the time. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the Portage County Coroner.

The second vehicle was driven by Todd S. Fields, 47, of Akron. He was injured but not taken to the hospital. He was lone occupant of a 2000 Jeep Cherokee which had heavy damaged and troopers say he was wearing his seatbelt at the time, according to the Highway Patrol troopers.

The third vehicle was driven by Michael L. Dougherty II, 27, of London, Ohio. He was injured but not taken to the hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt. He had one passenger, Jacob D. Coburn, 30, also of London, Ohio. He was injured, but not taken to the hospital. He was wearing a seatbelt. They were in a 2015 Ford F-350 truck that was pulling a trailer. The truck and trailer had severe damage.

The fourth vehicle was driven by Sarah A. Lavrich, 30, of Ravenna. She was taken taken to University Hospitals of Portage County by a relative with unknown injuries. She was wearing a seatbelt at the time. Her one-year-old child who was with her was also taken to the hospital. The child had been restrained in a Child Safety Seat. Lavrich was driving a 2014 Ford Fusion, which had minor damage, according to the Highway Patrol report..

The crash occurred when Williams was westbound on SR59 in the left turn only lane, passed several westbound vehicles, and then struck Fields head-on.

Fields was eastbound on SR59 in the left turn lane attempting to make a left turn. After the collision with Fields, Williams' vehicle continued on, striking Dougherty's truck, who was eastbound on SR59. Williams' vehicle, then struck the Lavrich car, which was also eastbound on SR59, according to troopers.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio State Highway Patrol and Portage County Coroner.

Troopers were assisted at the scene the Portag e County Sheriff's Department, Ravenna Township Fire Department, and the Ohio Department of Transportation.
