WILKES-BARRE, PA : Multi-car crashes in W-B due to icy conditions on Monday, 21st January 2019

Despite the best efforts of road crews, some streets remained slick and led to crashes close to 24 hours after this past weekend’s winter storm ended.
City police confirmed there were two crashes involving up to 10 vehicles at the intersection of Northampton Street and the unnamed road through Kirby Park on Monday.
Police did not have any more details on those crashes immediately available Monday afternoon.
Butch Frati, city director of operations, said a Department of Public Works crew spread more salt on the road and at the intersection, but the city closed the road through Kirby Park to traffic at least until today.
“We salted heavily, but salt is nearly ineffective when it’s this cold out,” Frati said.
