Phoenix ,AZ : Two killed and seven injured in crash on Interstate 10 at SR 51 on early Sunday afternoon ,July 26th 2015

Traffic is moving normally again following a crash that left two people dead early Sunday afternoon.

Officials with the Phoenix Fire Department confirm that two people were killed in the crash that occurred just before 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon on Interstate 10 at State Route 51.

Mark Vanacore with Phoenix Fire also says that three people were transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and a man and two children under the age of 5 were transported in stable condition. Another child, a 7-year-old boy, was transported in serious condition.

Bart Graves with the Arizona Department of Public Safety says that at 3:17 p.m. Sunday a Chevrolet Tahoe was traveling eastbound on Interstate 10 when the left rear tire separated.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the car to cross the median through the cable barriers before it rolled over, coming to rest in the westbound lane of I-10, Graves said.

A total of nine people were inside the vehicle and five people were ejected from the car during the crash, according to Graves.

A man and a woman were pronounced dead on scene and two other adults were taken to the hospital in critical condition. Two young children were also in the vehicle and they were not wearing seat belts. Fortunately, they only suffered minor injuries, Graves said.

Finally, one of the people pronounced dead on scene was struck by a vehicle in the westbound lanes, according to Graves.

Just before 9:30 p.m. Sunday, highway officials reopened all lanes of traffic on Interstate 10 near 7th Street. Around 5:00 p.m. officials opened two lanes of traffic, but four other lanes remained closed.
