Cleveland, TN : One man died in a single-vehicle accident on May, Friday, 12th 2017
One man died in a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 411 in Polk County Friday afternoon.
Tennessee Highway Patrol Trooper Larry Fowler said in his report the accident occurred around 3:07 p.m., and involved a vehicle driven by 71-year-old Tennga, Ga., resident Larry Gene Underwood. The accident occurred in the southern portion of the county, not far from the Tennessee-Georgia state line.
According to the trooper, Underwood was traveling southbound on the highway when his 1999 GMC Safari hydroplaned due to the inclement weather and traveled around the northbound lane and struck a tree. The Safari rotated around the tree and overturned onto its right side.
Underwood was reportedly trapped in his vehicle, and when the trooper arrived, was found deceased.
No other vehicles were involved in the accident, and there were no others listed as passengers in the vehicle when the wreck occurred.
Underwood’s report said that neither drinking nor drugs were involved in the accident, and there would be no criminal charges filed. He said that Underwood’s family was notified.
Traffic on U.S. Highway 411 was slowed as the accident scene was analyzed.
