Tallahassee, FL : Motorcyclist, 33, killed in crash near Micanopy at the intersection of U.S. 441 and Southeast 185th Avenue on Sunday, 11th November 2018

A Gainesville man was killed Sunday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash south of Micanopy at the intersection of U.S. 441 and Southeast 185th Avenue.

Calvin Anthony Smith, 33, was killed, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

In a media release, FHP said Smith was headed south on U.S. 441 on a Honda motorcycle, approaching the intersection at Southeast 185th Avenue. Lauren Anne Sams, 36, also of Gainesville, was headed east on Southeast 185th Avenue approaching the intersection.

Sams, who was driving a 2017 Tesla Model X, failed to yield the right-of-way to Smith, according to FHP.

Smith was hit by the Tesla and died at the scene, FHP reported. He was wearing a helmet.

Sams and a 7-year-old passenger were not injured, FHP reported in a media release.

The crash remains under investigation. Charges could be filed depending on the outcome of the homicide investigation.
