70-year-old man dies in accident on Pontchartrain Expressway
Police are investigating an accident that killed a 70-year-old man Monday.The crash occurred shortly after 4 p.m. on I-10 East near the Airline Highway exit. The victim was driving a silver, late-model Lexus SUV and made an erratic exit off the interstate. The SUV slammed into the rear of a white Toyota that was traveling westbound near the Airline Highway exit. The driver of the Lexus then lost control and collided with a concrete barrier dividing the bridge.Witnesses said the Lexus was speeding before the crash.The SUV driver was pronounced dead at the scene, while his 67-year-old female passenger was taken to the hospital, where she is listed in critical condition.The female driver of the white Toyota was not seriously injured.No charges have been filed in the accident. A full toxicology exam will be performed.Fatality Investigator Melvin Hunter is in charge of the investigation.
