Salem, OR : Five killed in four separate crashes on Sunday September 18 2016
Oregon State Police investigated four separate crashes on three Western Oregon highways that killed five people this weekend.
Highway 22 Alexander Shumilov, 31, of Salem, died in a single car crash on Highway 22 near milepost 75 Sunday afternoon. A preliminary investigation indicates that Shumilov was driving westbound on Highway 22 when he attempted to pass a slower driver. Shumilov lost control of his 2003 Volkswagen Jetta and hit a tree after sliding off the highway.
Shumilov was pronounced dead at the scene. Conditions on the highway were wet.
Oregon State Police responded to single car crash on Highway 22 Saturday night, at around 10 p.m., near milepost 14. Reports say a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling westbound when it drifted into the center median and rolled over, coming to a rest on the south side of the highway.
The driver was a 49-year-old woman from Keizer and was pronounced dead at the scene. Oregon State Police will release her name after notifying her family.
