Tucson,AZ : 1 killed, 1 seriously injured after vehicle chase leads to crash on February, Wednesday 7th 2018
One man was killed and another seriously injured after their vehicle collided with a construction vehicle on Tucson's southwest side Wednesday.
At around 11:41 a.m., Tucson police officers responded to an agency request from the Sheriff's department for a serious injury collision at the 2000 block of West Valencia Road.
They found two men inside a maroon car which had struck a Front Loader construction vehicle, a news release said. The occupants were transported to a hospital where the passenger died and driver currently remains with serious injuries.
Detectives learned Sheriff's deputies responded to a convenience store where two suspects fled in a maroon vehicle. A deputy spotted a vehicle matching the description westbound on Valencia Road and attempted to stop it.
When the vehicle sped away, the deputy began to pursue, the release said.
The driver lost control of the vehicle in a construction area where the curb lane access was restricted. The vehicle hit multiple construction pylons before the collision.
Detectives determined the men were not wearing seatbelts and the rate of speed appears to be a factor.
While no citations or arrests have been made, the investigation is ongoing.
