West Windsor, N.J : Debris from tractor trailer caused fatal crash on Route 1 north of Quakerbridge Road early Wednesday, February 1, 2017

A New York man was killed early Wednesday after debris from a tractor trailer caused him to veer off Route 1 into trees, police said.

The crash occurred around 12:30 a.m. about a half-mile north of Quakerbridge Road, police said.

A tractor-trailer that was heading north on Route 1 left tire debris in the lanes, police said. A 1992 Dodge van being driven by 63-year-old Gerard Haburay was traveling north when police said the debris caused him to swerve off the road and hit several trees.

Haburay, who was the only person in his car, was taken to the hospital, where he later died.

Police identified the truck driver as Jose Araya, 65, of Somerset.

The accident remains under investigation by West Windsor police and the Mercer County Prosecutor's Office's Serious Collision Response Team and charges have not yet been filed.
