ATTLEBORO, MA : Pedestrian seriously injured in Attleboro accident on Tuesday, July 4, 2017

A pedestrian was seriously injured when he was struck by a vehicle on Newport Avenue (Route 1A) late Tuesday night.

The accident was reported about 11:15 p.m. near Cardi's furniture store.

The victim was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, Providence, with what Deputy Fire Chief Ed Greve described as "very serious" and life-threatening injuries.

The vehicle was a Subaru Forester with Rhode Island license plates, police said.

Police closed one lane of traffic while they conducted accident reconstruction.
