Longmont,CO: One person dead, another injured in major crash on U.S. 287, west of Erie on November, Monday 27th 2017
One person is dead and another was taken to the hospital following a two-vehicle crash at Isabelle Road and U.S. 287 just west of Erie.
Colorado State Trooper Josh Lewis said that a 22-year-old Georgia woman was killed in the crash and a 45-year-old Brighton man was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette with moderate injuries. They appear to be the only two people involved in the crash.
The crash involved a 2015 Nissan and a 2010 GMC, but Lewis did not have any information on the exact models of the vehicles.
A preliminary report of the crash released on Monday evening said the woman — in the Nissan — was driving northbound on U.S. 287 through the Isabelle Road intersection when she drifted across the center line and into oncoming traffic, according to Lewis.
The truck collided head-on with her front driver's side, sending the truck onto its side.
The woman was transported to Boulder Community Health's Foothills Hospital and pronounced "dead upon arrival," Lewis said.
He added that no drugs or alcohol are suspected in the crash, and that both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
Police shut down southbound U.S. 287 at Jasper Road but it had been reopened as of 1 p.m. with the two vehicles removed.
Earlier in the day, a truck was turned on its side in the middle of the intersection, and a passenger car to the north sustained heavy damage. A tanker truck appears to be stopped at the scene.
A large amount of debris was scattered on the ground between the two vehicles.
