St. Louis, MO : McKinley Bridge shut down after a tractor trailer over turned during a multi-vehicle accident on Thursday, March 26, 2015
Authorities reopened both directions of the McKinley Bridge just before noon on Thursday after a tractor-trailer crashed on the bridge, authorities said.
The truck crashed as it was heading east into Illinois about 9:20 a.m., authorities said. The truck hit one of the bridge's girders and collided with a sport utility vehicle, said Capt. Gregg Favre of the St. Louis Fire Department. He said the truck's trailer somehow slid off the tractor and struck one of the beams, spilling debris across onto the bridge.
The driver of the SUV had a minor injury, was treated by paramedics at the scene and declined further treatment at a hospital, Favre said. The tractor-trailer driver was not hurt.
The truck's load included what appeared to be scrap metals and plastics, Favre said.
The bridge sustained scrapes but no structural damage, the Illinois Department of Transportation said.
