A 71-year-old man was killed and four others were hurt in a pile-up on the Eisenhower Expressway early Saturday morning.

The crash involved at least 13 cars and happened around 12:40 a.m. in the outbound lanes of Interstate 290 near Central Avenue, according to Illinois State Police.

Snowy weather and ice contibuted to the accident, according to Illinois State Police Sgt. Alexander Diaz.

"It was just one giant chain reaction," Diaz said. "They just kept on piling up."
