Memphis , TN :Injuries reported after five-car crash on Stage Road and Covington Pike on Wednesday , June 24th 2015
Several emergency crews responded to a crash near the intersection of Covington Pike and Stage Road.Memphis police officers, Memphis fire paramedics, and Shelby County Sheriff's Office deputies all responded to the scene.According to police, shots were fired at Avery Park Apartments. The suspects and victims then sped off down Stage Road and caused a chain-reaction wreck when they crashed.A security guard for the apartment complex said the car was traveling at least 100 miles per hour down Stage Road, swerving in and out of traffic, before crashing into cars stopped at a red light.Melvin Pryor, a victim involved in the crash, said someone shot at him inside the apartment complex."We getting shot at seem like to me, so how can we be the shooters?" Pryor asked. "When they stopped us, they searched the car good. We didn't have any guns or nothing."WMC Action News 5 crews on the scene say five cars are in bad shape.Witnesses say one man got out of the car that caused the crash and ran down Covington Pike. It is unknown whether police located him.Police say at least one person was taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.
