Cheboygan, MI : Weather a factor in two accidents on Tuesday, February 7th 2017
The Cheboygan County Sheriff Department handled two rollover accidents within 25 minutes of each other Tuesday on I-75 as rain fell in freezing temperatures allowing ice to form on the roads. The first accident occurred at 4 p.m. when a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup driven by Benjamin Abbot, 46, of Vanderbilt, lost control on the icy roadway while passing another vehicle, slid off the roadway and rolled over. Abbot was the only occupant and was transported to Otsego Memorial Hospital by Cheboygan Life Support for non-life threatening injuries. The second accident occurred at 4:25 p.m. when a 2016 Chevrolet Cruze driven by Dale Hanson. 81, of Indian River, was driving southbound and lost control on the icy roadway while attempting to change lanes, slid off the roadway and rolled over. Hanson had minor injuries and sought his own treatment. In both accidents alcohol was not a factor and seat belts were used. Assisting at both scenes was the Wolverine Fire Department.
