La Porte, IN : 19-year-old killed in crash in Michigan City on Wednesday morning, October 12, 2016

A 19-year-old Westville man died Wednesday morning after his vehicle crashed in the 2800 block of Franklin Street.

Joshua Livergood was pronounced dead after the accident, according to a news release issued Wednesday by the Michigan City Police Department.

An initial investigation by members of the MCPD Traffic Division and Detective Bureau revealed that Livergood's 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt was traveling northbound on Franklin Street at a high rate of speed at about 3:22 a.m. Wednesday.

He subsequently lost control of the vehicle and veered left into the southbound lanes where he sideswiped a motorist operating a Ford Taurus. Livergood's Chevrolet continued moving until it impacted a building located at 2803 Franklin St. and came to rest.

Livergood was the only occupant of the Chevrolet and police say there were no other injuries.
Initial toxicology reports indicate that alcohol, narcotics and speed were all factors in the crash.
