Hanford, CA : Motorcyclist dead after early Tuesday morning crash on July 22nd 2014
The California Highway Patrol say an early morning crash Tuesday at the intersection of Grangeville Boulevard and 16th Avenue left one man dead.
At 5:15 a.m., 50-year-old Jaime Vargas of Hanford was driving his 2009 Chevrolet eastbound on Grangeville Boulevard toward 16th Avenue.
At the same time, a 49-year-old Sean Mescher from Hanford was driving his 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on Grangeville Boulevard, at an unknown speed, approaching the same intersection as the Chevrolet.
A statement said that when Vargas approached 16th Avenue he started slowing down and began to make a left turn . In doing so, he drove directly into the path of the motorcycle.
When the motorcyclist saw Vargas CHP said he tried to apply his brakes, but was unable to stop in time. The front of the motorcycle reportedly crashed into the right side of Vargas’ car.
Mescher sustained major injuries and was taken to a local hospital where he later died from his injuries.
CHP say alcohol and drugs do not appear to have been a contributing factor in the crash.
