Santa Clarita, California
Two people, including a California Highway Patrol officer, were injured and taken to the hospital Tuesday morning after the officer was hit from behind on Highway 14 near Via Princessa, a CHP spokesman said.
The crash was the second traffic collision in which a CHP officer was injured in the Santa Clarita Valley and taken to the hospital, CHP Officer John Lutz said. The other incident occurred on Interstate 5.
In the Highway 14 crash, the CHP officer was behind a stalled big rig in the southbound lanes of the freeway when he was hit from behind shortly before 9:30 a.m., Lutz said.
“One of our patrol vehicles was behind a big rig and was rear-ended,” Lutz said.
Paramedics with the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to the crash shortly after 9:30 a.m., Fire Department Inspector David Dantic said.
“It came in as an auto collision with two vehicles involved,” he said. “Two patients were transported to the hospital at 10:02.”
Both CHP-related crashes were under investigation, Lutz said.
“We want to remind people to be vigilant on our roadways,” he said.
