Oak Park, CA : Woman injured after her SUV crashed into a carport outside an Oak Park condominium Monday afternoon, April 27, 2015

A woman suffered major injuries after her SUV crashed into a carport outside an Oak Park condominium Monday afternoon, the California Highway Patrol said.

Firefighters later freed the woman and she was flown by helicopter to an area hospital where she was treated, said Capt. Mike Lindbery of the Ventura County Fire Department.

The crash was reported at 1:12 p.m. in the 5600 block of Foxwood Drive. The SUV apparently drove off Hollytree

Road before crashing into the stand-alone carports off Foxwood Drive, authorities said.

Preliminary reports said the SUV crashed through one carport and into a second. During the crash, a heavy beam came down through the windshield of the SUV, trapping the driver, Lindbery said.

Crews brought in heavy equipment to move the beam and extricate the woman. By 2:10 p.m., they had gotten her out of the vehicle, authorities reported.

Both carports were severely damaged and unstable, and building and safety officials were called to the scene, Lindbery said.
