Harmony, NC : South Carolina woman died in fatal crash on Monday evening, July 7,2014
A South Carolina woman died in a crash Monday evening on Interstate 77 near the Harmony-Union Grove exit.
Trooper Blake Ketner of the N.C. Highway Patrol said Laura A. Klavon, 33, of Sumter, S.C., was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash near the 63-mile marker.
Ketner said Klavom was the lone occupant of the 2003 VW. He said speed was a factor in the crash, estimating that Klavon was traveling north at around 90 to 100 mph.
"She was going back and forth across the interstate," Ketner said.
Then the VW ran off the right side of the road and traveled about 400 yards on the shoulder of the interstate.
The car then traveled back across the interstate, onto the left shoulder, and then came back onto the right shoulder, where the car overturned down an embankment, striking several trees, Ketner said. The car came to rest on its left side.
Klavon was pronounced dead at the scene and no other vehicles were involved.
