Ocoee ,FL : off-duty Florida Highway Patrol sergeant seriously injured in crash on Friday , May 1 2015

An off-duty Florida Highway Patrol sergeant was seriously injured in a crash Friday night.

Troopers said the sergeant crashed her motorcycle near Ocoee-Apopka Road and Demastus Lane.

"It upset me. My heart just went out to her," Connie Rodgers said.
Rodgers said she heard the crash just after 5 p.m. and rushed over to find the woman on the ground next to her motorcycle. She was awake and talking, but confused.

Witnesses rushed to comfort her.

"Myself and two other ladies that were behind her at the time that she wrecked, we just kind of gathered around her and tried to help her and keep her still and calm as much as we could," Rodgers said.

Troopers said the sergeant was on her personal bike when she rounded the curve and, for an unknown reason, crashed. Troopers said she does not remember what happened.

"She was sitting up. She had some blood on her face," a witness said.

Other cars driving in the opposite direction stopped, but another motorcycle rear-ended a PT cruiser. No one was injured in the second crash, but troopers spent hours investigating both accidents.

Troopers and police gathered at the hospital to support their fellow officer.

Witnesses said they will spend the night praying the injured woman recovers.

"Right before the ambulance came, we said a little prayer for her, and we're still praying that she's OK," Rodgers said.
