Two Oneida County men were killed early Saturday when the car they were riding in left an Adirondack highway, went down an embankment and hit a tree, State Police said.
The one-car crash occurred about 6 a.m. on Route 28, just north of the McKeever Bridge, in the town of Webb, Herkimer County.
The driver, Alexander M. Platt, 22, of Boonville was southbound when he left the road. The vehicle traveled down an embankment and struck a tree. Platt was able to get himself out and flagged down an off-duty member of the Raquette Lake Fire Department, who called for help, troopers said.
Two passengers, Cody M. Seymour, 23, and Dalton D. Dorrity, 22, both of Boonville, were pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.
Route 28 was closed to traffic during the first part of the investigation but has since been cleared and opened. Investigation is continuing.
