Bridgeport, CT : 72-Year-Old man critically injured in hit & run crash on Stratford Avenue in Bridgeport on Monday evening, April 20, 2015
Police found a vehicle that left the scene of an accident that critically injured a 72-year-old man Monday evening.
Police spent hours searching for a red two-door vehicle, possibly a 1990s vintage Pontiac Grand am or Grand Prix with damage to the right side of to the hood. They described the vehicle as having tinted windows and a spoiler on the trunk.
The vehicle was found on Tuesday after a tip was called in that the car was on Eagle Street. It was unoccupied when police arrived, and the car was towed as evidence.
Police said Cyril Lennon, 72, of Bridgeport, was crossing Stratford Avenue at Hollister Avenue at about 8:22 p.m. when the car struck him. The car was last seen was traveling east on Stratford Avenue at the time of the accident. Police said it stopped briefly before driving away on Hewitt Street.
“Investigators are working to locate the car and the driver who fled the scene,” said Police Chief Joseph L. Gaudett Jr. “We are following solids leads and ask anyone who recognizes this car to contact police.”
The victim is described as a hard working man with a good heart. “Everybody knows him,” said Ivan Case, a friend of Lennon’s. “We all called him ‘go-go’ because he was always on the go. That person is a human being and you don’t take a human being’s life like that for granted.”
