Ferndale, WA : 93-year-old Bellingham woman died after a T-bone crash in Whatcom County on Tuesday afternoon, April 5, 2016

A 93-year-old Bellingham woman died after a T-bone crash Tuesday afternoon, April 5, on Slater Road.

Jacqueline D. Jefferson, 61, of the Lummi Reservation, was driving a red ’95 Chevy Blazer south on Ferndale Road around 12:45 p.m. when she ran a stop sign at Slater, according to the Washington State Patrol.

An eastbound black ’06 Volvo XC90 crashed into the passenger side of the Chevy.

A passenger in Jefferson’s SUV, Margaret Greene, 93, was rushed to St. Joseph hospital. Greene died later in the afternoon. The exact cause of her death remains under investigation, said Sgt. Mark Francis of the state patrol.

Jefferson suffered chest injuries.

The Volvo driver, Hannah Hadfield Fisk, 30, of Ferndale, didn’t suffer serious outward injuries. She’s pregnant, however, so she was taken to St. Joseph hospital as a precaution, along with a child in her car who appeared unharmed, Francis said.

All three adults involved were wearing seat belts.

Troopers continue to look into why Jefferson didn’t stop at the intersection. She hasn’t been arrested or charged with a crime. Drugs and alcohol aren’t believed to be factors, according to the state patrol.

The speed limit on Ferndale Road is 35 mph. On Slater it’s 50 mph. Troopers found no tire marks on the road to suggest the Volvo braked before the crash.
