Lynchburg,VA : Lynchburg man killed in I-81 crash on April, Thursday 5th 2018

A Lynchburg man was killed Thursday in a tractor-trailer crash on Interstate 81 in Smyth County, police said.

James T. Barricks, 67, was driving a Kenworth tractor-trailer north near mile marker 43 at about 4:20 p.m. when it failed to brake in time for traffic ahead that had slowed for a work zone, Virginia State Police said in a news release.


The Kenworth rear-ended an International tractor-trailer, ran off the right side of the road and caught fire, state police said.

Barricks died at the scene.
