Jacksonville Beach, FL : 1 pedestrian dead, second critical in separate Jacksonville Beach and Westside crashes on Thursday, 11th July 2019

One man is dead after a Thursday-night crash in Jacksonville Beach, and another was near death following an earlier hit-and-run on the Westside, police said.

The traffic fatality occurred shortly before midnight in the 800 block of Second Street North as 22-year-old Bryn Turner of South Carolina was hit as he walked in the road, Jacksonville Beach police said. The car that hit him continued south and hit a tree finally stopping near Fifth Avenue North.

Speed and alcohol are suspected in the crash, police said.

The driver is identified as Joshua Lamar Lovingood, 31, of Jacksonville, police said. His Duval County court record includes two recent charges of driving while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a suspended license.

The hit-and-run crash occurred six hours earlier in the 2400 block of West Miss Muffet Lane, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office said. A blue Ford Five Hundred sedan was headed west just before 5 p.m. near Goldilocks Lane when it first hit another vehicle. The Ford’s female driver “briefly interacted with the driver of that vehicle,” then fled. The person in that car was uninjured.

But as the suspect in the Ford continued driving, she hit an unidentified man who was standing next to his landscaping truck and trailer parked a block away, police said.

“After striking the pedestrian, the individual struck a fence and fled on foot southbound on Miss Muffet Lane West,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “The victim was transported by rescue to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.”
