Fort Walton Beach,FL : teen in critical condition after SR 85 crash on may, tuesday 9th 2017

Florida Highway Patrol is reporting that a Crestview teenager is in critical condition following a single-vehicle crash Tuesday night on State Road 85.

According to a FHP news release, 17-year-old Sophia Elizabeth Williams was traveling north in the inside lane on SR 85 near the 25 mile marker at 7:29 p.m. when she attempted to change lanes in a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche pickup.

With the outside lane occupied by another vehicle, Williams over-corrected the Avalanche to the left, causing the tires on the left side of the pickup to enter the grass median. After entering into the median area, the pickup began to slide before the tires dug into the grass, causing the vehicle to begin overturning.

The Avalanche came to a final rest upside down in a southbound lane of travel, approximately 80 feet south of the 25 mile marker.

Williams, who was wearing a seat belt, was transported to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center, where she remained listed in critical condition on Wednesday morning.

Alcohol was not related to the crash and FHP noted in the release that charges are pending.

All lanes on SR 85 did not re-open until just before 9:30 p.m., according to a statement from Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office.
