3-year-old Liam Stoltz is too young to know how fortunate he is to be alive after he and his dad were hit by a car while riding their bikes in Medway.“And I got this on me,” said Liam, pointing to a cast on his arm.“You know what this is? It’s a safety thing.”Matthew Stoltz says he was riding his bike with his son Liam in the tag-along trailer. After coming to a stop sign they started to make their turn, and that’s when they were hit from behind by an SUV.“We were going left and she was going right,” said Matthew.Liam got the worst of it.“She rolled forward and caught his helmet with (the) front tire,” said his father. “I thought it was the end.”The family says the helmet saved his life.“There is no doubt this is the reason he woke me up at 6 this morning,” said Matthew.Liam was immediately MedFlighted to UMass
Medical Center. He suffered two broken fingers and some scrapes, but overall he’s expected to be alright.Fortunately, the car was not going very fast, but Liam’s
mother Julie says if Liam was not wearing a helmet, this would be a completely different story.“You are not talking to a grieving mother, but to a very happy family
today,” she said.
