Iredell County, NC : 6-year-old son killed in vehicle crash Interstate 77 on Friday January 22 2016
Iredell County, North Carolina
A father was charged Friday night in connection with a wreck on Interstate 77 that killed his 6-year-old son earlier in the day, troopers said.
Rosendo Lopez, 29, of Statesville, was driving northbound near Troutman during a winter storm when he lost control, hitting a disabled vehicle being pulled up to a flatbed truck on the shoulder of the road.
The mother was in the passenger seat of Lopez’s vehicle, while their son and his sister were in the backseat.
The boy was in a car seat, troopers said.
The rest of the family had minor injuries and were later released from the hospital.
The two tow truck workers were not injured.
Lopez was charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle, because troopers said he was driving too fast for conditions.
Alcohol is not suspected in this wreck.
